Glass materials in real time

Hi!

I would like to use a glass material in real time, but can’t I use Bake light to object?
I’m trying, but it’s not working.

I would like to express this kind of exterior wall.

Is there a better way?

A DFX is always appreciated

Ithink baking lighting on a glass surface wouldn’t work too well - light passes straight through it for the most part.
If your aiming at realtime use I would suggest one of these two options:

  • Bake eveerything except the Glass material, add a RT glass refraction node only, and use envmapping for the surface reflections.
  • Bake everything , and trade the RT Glass material for alpha blended materials, all with Envmapping enabled using a fake glass technique outlined here: http://manual.notch.one/0.9.22/en/topic/glass-material

You may need to switch from Pathtraced reflections to RT Mirror or SSR, both would be completely appropriate for this use case.

With the complexity in that scene, it may be tricky to find the right balance between performance and visuals, but I’m pretty confident you can get that scene running in real time and looking awesome in any case.

Thanks for the reply.

I understood how to do it.
Now we need to review the 3D to make sure the light bake is accurate.

Thank you for pointing this out.
